Vietnam needs to continue promoting innovation to become high-income, developed country

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s ambition to become a high-income developed country by 2045 depends heavily on unleashing and facilitating creativity and innovation, UN Resident Coordinator Pauline Tamesis said at a ceremony in Hanoi on Friday in response to World Creativity and Innovation Day to be held on April 21.

These will be the core tools needed to make Vietnam a regional center for creativity and innovation, she said, adding that the UN stands ready to support Vietnam in its journey.

Echoing Tamesis, Vietnamese Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat said Vietnam needs to further enhance its innovative capacity to increase labor productivity, improve its product quality, and ensure environmental protection and sustainable development.

“Vietnam is transforming its capital and labor-based growth model to a science, technology, and innovation-based model. This long-term goal requires a collective effort from ministries, agencies, localities, businesses, and society as a whole,” said Minister Dat.

UN Resident Coordinator Tamesis noted that in 2023, Vietnam achieved 5 out of 17 sustainable development goals. Over the next several years, Vietnam needs to accelerate its effort to meet these goals through innovation and creativity, she suggested. This involves inspiring actions to implement green technologies and solutions to address new challenges, reduce carbon emissions, enhance environmental sustainability, and improve people’s living standard, she said.
